Breakfast can be one of those stressful eating times when we have no time to consider what is good for us and we are looking for calories to get us through the day to lunch. One way to combat the breakfast blues is to make something that will keep, that you can make ahead and even store at work so that when you get there you can eat something warm, healthy, and will stay with you through the crazy morning until lunch. You can even store this dry cereal in a zip-top plastic bag in the freezer to keep it fresh.
This dried cereal combination can be eaten as is but I recommend adding hot water to really make it something special. It turns into an oatmeal like consistency that will make you take a few minutes to enjoy your morning no matter where you are.
Five-Grain Cereal with Apricots, Apples, and Bananas
To make the cereal a batch at a time, add 1/2 cup dry cereal mix to 1 1/2 cups boiling water for each serving. If you are at the office, bring hot water in a thermos from home or use the Tea function on the coffee maker.

Preparation
Place flaxseed in a spice or coffee grinder; process until coarsely ground. Combine flaxseed, oats, and remaining ingredients except water in a large bowl, stirring well to combine.
Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add cereal; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook 2 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Serve immediately.
